Voigtlander Vito Cameras - Vito III

by Stephanie Marriott

Vito III

This camera was introduced in 1950. The design is closer to the 35 mm. Prominent cameras than to previous Vito models; the body closely resembles that of the Prominent. The top plate utilises the Prominent rangefinder coupling, and the lens and shutter are mounted on a Vito-style bellows assembly.

The Vito III is fitted with a Voigtlander Ultron 50 mm. f/2 lens in a synchronised Compur-Rapid shutter and has a coupled co-incident image rangefinder. The Compur-Rapid shutter offers speeds 1-1/500 and B, and is X-synchronised. Later models are fitted with the Synchro-Compur shutter which is XM synchronised. A film type indicator is in the camera base. The rangefinder and viewfinder windows are combined into one and focusing is done using a knob on the left of the top-plate.

The double exposure interlock can be released using a small button alongside the winding knob. The lens has a 32 mm. push-on filter mount. In 1952, this top-of-the-range camera cost about £87.
