Voigtlander Vito Cameras - Vito C

by Stephanie Marriott

This camera was introduced in 1960. It is similar to the Vito B, with some modifications, the most obvious of which is that the release button on the top-plate is replaced by a release mounted on the camera front. A cable release socket is on the underside of this key. In 1960, the camera was fitted with a 50 mm. f/2.8 Lanthar lens in Pronto four-speed synchronised shutter and cost about £18. In 1961, a further version appeared, with f/2.8 Color Skopar lens in Pronto-LK shutter at about £26, and in 1962 these two are joined by two further models which have the same specifications but with a deluxe finish, making four options.

There are some differences between the standard and the deluxe finish, the most obvious being the film reminder. The film reminder has three positions, for black and white film, daylight film and artificial light film. The standard finish has black and white bars, a sun symbol and a bulb symbol for these three. The deluxe finish has white, yellow and blue sectors for the three film types. Another difference is in the release key, which is satin-finished metal for the standard finsh and black plastic with metal trim for the de luxe finish. In both cases, the cable release socket is on the underside, but the deluxe finish provides a plastic thread while the standard finish has a metal thread. The basic finish was dropped by 1965, as was the 'deluxe' name, the Lanthar was replaced by the Color-Lanthar about a year later and by 1968 the camera is discontinued.
