The Vitomatic II was introduced
around 1958.
It has a coupled meter and an incident
light attachment is supplied with the camera, but this
has no means for fastening it to the camera and was
usually lost. The meter display is on the top-plate, and
the pointer is aligned with a circle by adjusting the
aperture. The required aperture/shutter speed combination
can then be selected.
The brightline viewfinder has a centre
spot coupled coincident-image rangefinder.
The base-plate has a hinged portion which, together
with the hinged back, gives access to the film chamber for loading.
Film is advanced using a single-stroke lever wind. The frame counter,
which indicates the number of unexposed frames, is on the base of
the camera. There is also an accessory shoe, delayed action and cable
release socket (in the release button).
The lens is a 50 mm. f/2.8 Color
Skopar in Prontor SLK-V shutter.
The film speed is set directly onto
the shutter, around the lens mount; unlike the Vito BL,
this camera does not use an EV scale. In addition, there
is a system of dots which allows a filter factor to be
set without complicated calculations.
In common with many other Voigtlander
cameras, the distance settings have zone focus marks.
Shutter speeds are engraved in black (may be hand held),
red (tripod recommended) and green (whole seconds,
obtained using "B" setting).
In 1959, the camera cost about
£53.
